Mehendipura

Having cleansed the mirror of my mind with the dust of the lotus feet of Sri Gurudev, I now proceed to describe the untarnished glory or Sri Rama, the most excellent of Raghu's, which bestows the four fruits. Realizing the inadequacy of my intellect, I meditate on you, O Hanuman, the son of the wind-god; grant me strength, intelligence & true knowledge, and remove all my afflictions and blemishes Victory to you, O Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom & virtue. Victory to you O Hanuman, lord of monkeys & the enlightener of the 3 worlds. You are the messenger of Sri Rama, abode of immeasurable strength, and son of Anjana, and are also known as 'Pavanasuta', son of the wind-god. You are a great hero with exceptional valor with body as strong as the thunderbolt. You are dispeller of unwholesome thoughts and a companion of good sense & wisdom You are of golden color and you wear fine clothes. You wear shining ear-rings and have beautiful curly hair. You have the thunderbolt & flag in hand, whilst the sacred thread across your shoulder is made of sacred grass. You are an incarnation of Shiva and son of Keshari, and you are adored by the whole world on account of your radiance and courage You are learned, virtuous & extremely intelligent & you are always eager to do the work of Sri Raam You delight in listening to the glories of God and you have Rama, Lakshmana and Sita residing in your heart. You assumed a subtle form when your revealed yourself to Sita; and by assuming an awesome form you burnt the city of Lanka Then you assumed a gigantic form and destroyed the demons, thereby accomplishing the mission of Sri Rama. When you brought the life-giving medicinal herb (sanjivini) and revived Lakshmana, Sri Rama embraced you joyfully. Rama extolled you greatly and declared you to be as dear to him as his brother Bharata. Taking you into his embrace, Sri Rama stated that even Seshnag, the thousand headed serpent, sings your glory. The sages Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana and Sanat Kumara, Brahma and the other gods, Siva, Narada, Sarasvati and Seshnag… Yama, the god of death, Kubera, the god of wealth, Digpalas, the guardian deities, poets, and scholars have all failed to describe your glory adequately. You rendered an invaluable service to Sugriva by introducing him to Sri Rama and restoring him to the throne. The whole world knows that Vibhishana heeded your advice and became lord of Lanka You swallowed the sun from a distance of sixteen thousand miles, considering it to be a sweet fruit. Carrying Sri Rama's ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean, there is no wonder in that (because of your previous deeds). All the difficult tasks of the world are rendered easily possible by your grace. You are the gate-keeper of Sri Rama's kingdom, where none may enter without your permission. He who seeks refuge in you enjoys every happiness. What is there to be afraid of if you are the protector? You alone are able to control your vital energy; all three worlds tremble before your power. No evil spirits dare approach one who utters your name as Mahavir(great warrior). All diseases are destroyed and pains vanish when your powerful name is repeated incessantly (with one pointed mind). Hanuman frees from difficulties all those who contemplate upon him in thought, word and deed. You fulfilled all the missions of Sri Rama who fulfils the desires of devotees engaged in penance. Devotees may have any other desires, they will ultimately secure the imperishable fruit (realization of the highest reality). Your glory prevails in all four ages; and your fame radiates throughout the world. You are the protector of the saints and sages, and, beloved of Rama, you destroy the demons (ie evil forces). Mother Sita granted you the boon that you will be the bestower of the eight powers and the nine wealths. The essence of devotion to Sri Rama is with you; may you always be the servant of him. Through devotion to you one obtains Sri Rama and life times of sorrow are swept away. At the end of a lifespan of such devotion one goes to the abode of Sri Rama and is there known as a devotee of God. All happiness is granted even to that devotee who worships no other deity apart from Hanuman. All difficulties and pains are removed for those who contemplate on the all-powerful Hanuman. Victory, victory, victory to you, O Hanuman; as our supreme guru, give us grace. He who recites this chalisa a hundred times (with devotion) is sure to be freed from worldly bondage and enjoy great happiness. He who reads the Hanuman Chalisa (and follows its precepts) will become perfect, as Siva is the witness. Tulasidas who is always the servant of God prays that the Lord resides in his heart. O son of wind-god, remover of crises, embodiment of all blessings & auspiciousness, O king of Gods, reside in my heart along with Raam, Lakshmana & Sita
